TIME MANAGEMENT FOR MISSION - III

1. If you need some uninterrupted space for creative writing take your car and your dict-a-phone to the park.

2. Decisively deal with every minor frustration; doors that stick, phone cords that tangle, photo-copiers that don't work, sound systems that squeal, cars needing repair, etc. Clear the decks if you like so you can do your work productively.

3. Choose as your lay leaders only people that you would happily have as your rector. This strengthens the pool of credibility and trust that helps good things happen. Strive to eliminate anger and worry which consume essential emotional energies.

5. Don't get trapped into endless counseling sessions with people who want to simply share their problems and not act on them. Actively refer to support groups, self help groups, and community resources.

6. Don't lock yourself and your energies into long term programming without other stake holders and some insurance of success. "We will have a Bible study for four weeks and decide at that time whether we'll start a permanent new group." "We'd like to try a 9:00am service and we'll need ten families who will make a commitment for two years to get that started."

7. Don't try to be the message board for all communications. "Please phone Marg with the notices by Thursday night." Make sure Marg has the savvy to sift and sort for you and call you with problems.

8. Mail is extremely valuable for one way communications and for sharing information with leaders. Sets of duplicated labels will make it much easier to use mail and get information flowing.

9. Publish the names and responsibilities of all the people on the advisory board on the back of the bulletin so all the calls pertaining to that area go directly to the right person.
