A fresh wind is blowing through Federation

[originally published at www.anglicanfederation.com]

May 11, 2009

I’m happy to report that a fresh wind is blowing through the Anglican Essentials Federation. We have a rejuvenated Federation Council, including new clergy and two bright senior students from Wycliffe College.

Here’s some of what is happening:

The Anglican Communion Institute conference in Houston, Texas, April 15-17: this was attended by Ms. Katie Silcox and the Rev. Murray Henderson. Inspiring and helpful addresses were given by the likes of Dr. George Carey, Prof. Ephraim Radner, Bp. Tony Burton, Dr. Cheryl Wright and others. We also met with the Communion Partners, and found strong encouragement from these bishops and priests who are standing firm within The Episcopal Church. We are looking for strong connections to develop between the Federation and the Communion Partners.

We voted to support the adoption of the Covenant (Ridley-Cambridge Draft) as a good way of moving forward toward deeper communion in the Anglican Church world-wide. We encourage others to offer similar support.

Plans were laid for a Federation presence at General Synod in Halifax in 2010. For the last three General Synods we have maintained a strong presence, standing beside orthodox delegates and providing talking points and strategies for them as well as wonderful hospitality. All this under the leadership once again, of our Chair, the Rev. Brett Cane. Doug Grisim from St. Aidan’s, Winnipeg and Murray Henderson will be going to Halifax shortly to lay the groundwork, and to enlist the help of the Federation community in the Maritimes. Please pray for this endeavor.

The Anglican Project – led by the Rev. David Harris and others, this is a mind-blowing project aimed at communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially to people under 40. Huge effort and expertise are being poured into this project, whose initials (not accidently) resemble those of my favorite church newspaper.

Look for a significant name-change coming soon, reflective of new realities!
Over all, there is a feeling of excitement and expectation as we continue to bear witness from our stance WITHIN the Anglican church of Canada. We are a voice determined to stand for the received teaching of Scripture and the Teaching of the Church on matters of sexuality. As loyal members of the ACC, we warn church leaders that we are jeopardizing our standing within the world-wide Anglican Communion by ill-considered denials of the received teaching. We are eager to support other Anglicans determined to stand for the Gospel within an erring church.

Yours in Christ,

The Rev. Dr. Murray Henderson

Vice-Chair
The Anglican Essentials Federation
