Day 3 – 15 November 2008
The final day of synod was surprisingly unpressured, marked by remarkable unity of Spirit and joyful singing.
Following worship, the Rev Garth Hunt spoke briefly about his role as national prayer coordinator and offered to conduct prayer training sessions. The Rev Desiree Stedman also drew attention to several potential church plants in the west Ottawa area.
Then a series of motions was discussed and quite quickly approved, most unanimously. Motions were passed assuring the Queen and the Archbishop of Canterbury of our prayers and expressing gratitude to Archbishop Venables and to the spouses and families of our bishops and clergy for their support and sacrifice.
The Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) Church synod now has an interim constitution which will be in effect until the conclusion of the next synod. And our two bishops were authorized to select three new bishops over the next year for our Primate to consider for episcopal ministry in ANiC. Synod delegates were asked to submit names of up to three clergy they believed to be gifted and suited for the responsibilities of bishop. Bishop Malcolm Harding and Bishop Don Harvey will use this input from delegates in their deliberations.
Following the closing Eucharist at which the Rev Dr Trevor Walters preached, Bishop Don urged clergy and delegates to continue “reading from the same page” – that is faithful proclaiming the truth of God’s Holy Word. As we are faithful, God will build His Kingdom.
