  Christmas greetings from the moderator

My dear friends:

This marks the third consecutive year that I have been given the privilege of sending greetings to you all through this medium. While it is somewhat impersonal, it does give me the opportunity to share my thoughts at a time in the year when we are filled with expectation and hope. Although our journey together has been a rather long one (with as yet no clear end in sight) we are aware of our intended destination and the joy we will experience when we attain it.

During this Advent Season many of us have been in parishes where each week an additional candle is kindled on the Advent Wreath. Each one adds to the light that increasingly illuminates the wreath until all converge into the Christ Candle - the symbol of Emmanuel - Christ With Us!

Our quest, which stems from an intense desire to follow faithfully Him whose birthday we celebrate, often leads us to lonely and at times frightening positions. There are times when it seems as if, despite our efforts, darkness will prevail and so much of what we deem essential will be lost. It is at times such as these that we must remember that He is supreme, and that in the end, His victory and triumph will be ours.

It is my prayer that as we move into the period of decision that 2007 will bring, that we take courage and be strengthened by the memory of joy and light that enfolds our households and churches this Christmastide. The contemplation of that inestimable LOVE that manifested itself in such a touching manner over 2000 years ago will give us zeal and courage to continue the journey we willingly have undertaken -
because we believe it did happen even as St. Luke and the others describe it. When we recognize the gift God has so freely given us, the one we are giving to Him in our effort to be faithful really is small in comparison. Still, like the shepherds' humble offering, it is pleasing in His sight.

May the true meaning of this beautiful season be yours and may it bring deep and abiding happiness!

Yours in the Infant Jesus,

+Donald
