Christ Church of the Valley (Mill Bay / Shawnigan Lake, BC) is ANiC’s 40th official church plant/parish. The new Vancouver Island congregation is lead by the Rev Andrew Hewlett.
Order of St Joseph’s Guilds ...
The Rev St Clair Cleveland, who
is on the clergy team at Church of the Epiphany (Hamilton), has launched the Order of
St Joseph’s Guilds. His
desire is to bring together artisans and building trades people from across
ANiC and ACNA to form guilds that would share information and work together to
construct buildings and create furnishings for new church plants and for congregations
forced to leave their church buildings and belongings behind. You can see a presentation on this new
Order – together with photos of the Rev Cleveland’s handiwork – on the ANiC
website.

Christ The King, Toronto ...
ANiC’s Toronto Centre Project is now Christ The King
Anglican Church, Toronto – our newest church plant. Beginning
September 26, there will be regular Sunday services at 6:30pm at Blythwood Baptist Church,
80 Blythwood Road, Toronto.
On October 10, instead of the regular service, the congregation will
serve at Yonge Street Mission.Then, on October 24, there will be a
service of celebration and thanksgiving with the Rev Ray David Glenn preaching
and Bishop Don presiding at the inaugural Eucharist. All are
welcome! Watch for more information.
Welcome New Life Anglican Church ...
ANiC’s
moderator, Bishop Donald Harvey, has officially welcomed New Life Anglican
Church in Sturgeon Falls, ON (located near North Bay), into ANiC. This new
church plant is led by the Rev Nicole Poitras, who was received by Bishop
Donald Harvey earlier this year. Please remember this new congregation in
prayer as they become established and reach out to their community.
Bishop
Don welcomed the Rev Philip Ruch to ANiC this past week. Rev Ruch, who lives in
Dundas, Ontario has been licensed to serve as an Honourary Assistant at the
Church of the Epiphany, Hamilton. Bishop Masters will be present at Epiphany
on Sunday, September 12 to welcome him on behalf of Bishop Harvey and all the ANiC
family.
ANiC bishop ministers in England ...
ANiC’s area bishop
for Western Canada, Bishop Trevor Walters, preached this past Sunday at two
Anglican churches in Worcestershire, England and lead an open discussion about what's
happening in ACNA and ANiC. According to
Anglican Mainstream:
“At Christ Church, Bishop Trevor took as his text Jesus' words in Luke
12:32 'Be not afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give
you the kingdom.' He spoke powerfully about the way that the expectation of
Jesus' return as a real event in history underpins the Kingdom's reversal of
worldly values and how we need to guard against a lazy reading of the Bible
which accommodates it to what is fashionable.
Bishop Trevor's message came with an integrity which arises out of his
many years of pastoral experience and the costly stand for the gospel
whichhe and his colleagues in the ACNA have taken. Bishop Trevor
continues to be rooted in the congregation of St Matthew's in Abbotsford,
BC where he was previously rector and under whose leadership a series of new
churches were planted, despite a long running, continuing and costly battle to
resist ejection from the church's property by the leadership of the Anglican
Church of Canada.
It was a great privilege to share in this experience of gospel
partnership and a very encouraging reminder that despite so much compromise
with the prevailing secularism, a new and vital paradigm of Anglican faith and
order is emerging.
The Bishop or the King honoured ...
The Venerable Ron Corcoran’s book, “The Bishop or the King” received Awards of Merit in two categories at the recent Word Guild Canadian Christian Writing Awards. This popular book chronicles the decision made by parishioners and clergy of the Anglican Church of Canada’s St Matthias (Victoria, BC) to realign with the Anglican Network in Canada and change their name to Christ the King. It will be republished shortly with a new study guide. The book and study guide can be ordered online and is available at cost (plus shipping). Congratulations, Ron!
Welcoming Hub! ...
A new ANiC project, called “Hub”, has been established in the Hintonburg area of Ottawa under the leadership of the Rev Jennifer Wickham who presented the vision for this innovative project at our 2009 synod. The group meets for biweekly meals and recently started weekly Sunday morning worship. Future plans include launching a Reading Buddies Club at the library to serve the neighbourhood and build friendships. The group meets biweekly on Fridays at 6pm and Sundays at 9:30am. ACNA and theAM (former known as AMiA) forge new relationship ...
In response to the announced changes in the status of the Anglican Mission in the Americas within the Anglican Church in North America, ANiC issued a statement explaining what the change means to us and our province. The statement said that theAM, which is a missionary outreach of the Church of Rwanda, has changed its relationship with ACNA to that of “ministry partner.” Previously, TheAM was integrated into ACNA and formed nine dioceses. The change was necessitated by the jurisdictional confusion created for the Church of Rwanda by theAM’s “dual citizenship” in both the forming province of ACNA and the province of Rwanda.
Announcing: Anglican Relief and Development Fund Canada (ARDFC) launched ...
ARDFC is now operational and has a website. It is ANiC’s global relief and development agency and is allied with the US-based ARDF, the Anglican Church in North America’s agency.
ARDFC undertakes carefully selected and monitored relief and development projects together with partner dioceses in developing nations. These projects are focused on relieving poverty; providing food and other necessities of life; providing training to improve skills in healthcare; agriculture and irrigation; and advancing the Christian faith.
As an initial project, ARDFC is raising $50,000 for a malaria project in Kenya.

Vancouver parishes file legal arguments in appeal ...
On 4 May 2010, legal counsel for the ANiC Vancouver-area parishes filed the factum, or legal arguments, for the appeal in the dispute involving the Diocese of New Westminster. You can see the Factum here and the Factum appendices here.
The Appeal process will involve the following dates:

June 28 – Deadline for the diocese to file its factum, responding to the parishes’ arguments and making its case for appealing another aspect of the original decision (the awarding of the bequest to Church of the Good Shepherd) |

July 26 – Deadline for the parishes to file a reply to the diocese’s arguments |
| • |
August 9 – Deadline for the diocese to file a further reply |
The hearing of the appeal will take place in the BC Court of Appeal over four days beginning 14 September 2010.

Bishop Don on AnglicanTV ...
Kevin Kallsen of AnglicanTV has posted a fascinating interview with Bishop Donald Harvey, ANiC’s moderator and new dean of our province, the Anglican Church in North America. He talks about being dean, the conference, “New Wineskins” he was attending at the time, his reaction as an Anglo-Catholic to the pope’s offer to alienated Anglicans, the sacrifice of clergy who move to ACNA, momentous recent events in the Anglican Communion, the status of legal action in Canada. He talks about ANiC’s growth in Canada despite the persecution experienced, but adds, “Up to this point, we have never once gone in recruiting or proselytizing [although] sometimes we are criticized for not doing that.” He also says it is his view that the era we are going through will be seen in the future as a reformation of the same magnitude as that in the 1500s.
20 Global South primates call for ACNA recognition ...
Primates and leaders of 20 Global South Official Anglican provinces met in Singapore April 19-23 for the Fourth Global South Encounter and issued an official communiqué
which included:

A condemnation of the continued defiance of the clear teaching of Scripture by the Anglican Church of Canada (ACoC) and the US Episcopal Church (TEC) and a request that all Global South provinces publically declare they are out of communion with TEC and the ACoC until it becomes clear that there is genuine repentance. (Sections #16 & 18) |

Embrace of the ACNA. “…our hope is that all provinces will be in full communion with the clergy and people of the ACNA and the Communion Partners.” (#19) |

A desire to strengthen and rewrite the proposed Anglican Covenant. “…we believe that all those who adopt the Covenant must be in compliance with Lambeth 1.10. Meanwhile we recognize that the Primates Meeting, being responsible for Faith and Order, should be the body to oversee the Covenant in its implementation, not the Standing Committee of the Anglican Communion.” (#21) |

Archbishop of Canterbury challenged to call Primates Meeting ...
Uganda’s Archbishop Henry Orombi has written the Archbishop of Canterbury a frank open letter chronicling his undermining of the conciliar instruments of unity in the Anglican Communion, particularly the Primates Meeting. Archbishop Orombi calls for a Primates meeting to be held to deal with the growing division and crisis in the Communion. See Archbishop Orombi’s full letter here.
Shortly after Archbishop Orombi’s letter, the Archbishop of the Anglican Province of the Indian Ocean, the Most Rev Ian Ernest, wrote a similar letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury with the same concerns and supporting Archbishop Orombi’s demands. See Archbishop Ernest’s letter here.
Churches on east and west coasts join ANiC ...
With the welcome addition of two new congregations – one on the east coast and one on the west coast – ANiC now comprises 36 parishes and church plants.
A new church plant on Vancouver Island, north of Victoria, is led by the Rev Dr Michael Pountney and the Rev Mark Davison and is comprised of over 50 parishioners. Temporarily named Peninsula Anglican Church, it officially launched on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. An Anglican Planet web article provides more information.
The province of New Brunswick now has its first Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) church with the formation of Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church in Moncton. Led by the Rev Don Hamilton, it also launched on Easter Sunday, April 4. Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church plans to establish satellite churches in or near three other New Brunswick communities in the near future: Saint John, Sussex and Miramichi.
Interview with Archbishop Robert Duncan ...
In a video interview posted to the AEC blog, Archbishop Bob mentions that an average of three congregations per week have joined ACNA since last June – some church plants, some existing congregations. He says, “We have a sense that God is really in this; it’s pretty exciting.” He also discusses differences within ACNA on the ordination of women, his being seated on the GAFCon Primates Council, the invitation for ACNA to be represented at the Global South meeting in Singapore next month, the recent Church of South-East Asia synod which acknowledged their fellowship with ACNA, and the implied threat to Bishop Mark Lawrence of the Diocese of South Carolina by TEC’s Presiding Bishop.
Church of England affirms Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) ...
On February 10, the General Synod of the Church of England affirmed the Anglican Church in North America’s desire “to remain within the Anglican family.”

ANiC Moderator named Dean of the Anglican Church in North America ...
Bishop Donald Harvey, moderator of the Anglican Network in Canada, has been appointed Dean of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) by Archbishop Robert Duncan. As dean, he will support the Primate by representing Archbishop Duncan at various events and meetings both within North America and internationally when the Primate is unable to attend.
