Network welcomes new members
We are very grateful for the many new individual members who have joined the Network since the recent General Synod. In addition, the Network is very pleased to welcome two new parishes to our ranks, St Chad’s, Toronto, and St John the Evangelist, Calgary. St Chad’s voted July 22 with almost 89% of votes cast in favor. St John the Evangelist voted some time ago, but only recently announced their decision.  See all Network parishes: www.anglicannetwork.ca/member_parish.htm. Learn about our two newest member parishes at: www.anglicannetwork.ca/st_chad_to.htm and www.anglicannetwork.ca/st_john_ca.htm.

There has never been a better time to join the Network. We get regular requests from people looking for a Network parish in their area. If no Network parish is located near by, we try to direct them to a “Network friendly” parish. So, we need your help to identify biblically-faithful parishes across Canada to which we can refer people. If you know of a biblically-faithful parish in your area, or a home group seeking affiliation, please contact
us at admin@anglicannetwork.ca. And a big “Thank you” to everyone who has already emailed us.

Please uphold the Network leadership in prayer
Please pray for our moderator, Bishop Donald Harvey, and the board, staff and servant team of the Network as they meet in Vancouver, August 7-8, to discern God’s leading. While we wait to hear from the Primates following the September 30th deadline they imposed in the Dar es Salaam Communiqué, we must also continue our ministry of caring for Anglicans who feel isolated and deserted by their church.

Authorized prayers for same gender relationships
In a letter to the Diocese of British Columbia, Bishop James Cowan provides prayers to be offered with same-sex couples, including the supplication: “Make their life together a sign of Christ’s love to a sinful and broken world…” See: bc.anglican.ca. Or see a discussion of this letter on our blog.

Archbishop Gomez affirms sexuality is core doctrine
Speaking at a meeting in Maryland, July 28, West Indies Archbishop, the Most Rev. Drexel Gomez, discussed the growing split in the Communion and the upcoming Lambeth Conference. He also said the Anglican Church of Canada erred in declaring that same sex blessings do not impinge on core doctrine. "If something is about God's ordering of life how can it not be core doctrine? Our sexuality must conform to the divine ordering.  By endorsing homosexuality we are going against God's ordering of life.”

Uniting fragmented Anglicans
Anglican Network in Canada moderator,
Bishop Donald Harvey, and national director, Canon Charlie Masters, are in Bedford, Texas for the fourth annual Council meeting of the Anglican Communion Network (July 30-31). To get a flavour for these meetings, you can read the full opening address by (US-based) Anglican Communion Network moderator, Bishop Bob Duncan: www.acn-us.org. In part, Bishop Bob said, “Since the earliest days of the Network, God has given us a clear vision of who we are to be: A biblical, missionary and uniting presence in North America… Much of the work of this Fourth Annual Council focuses on our call to unity with other orthodox fragments…”

Training offered through Anglican Communion Network
The Anglican Communion Network (ACN) is offering a two training programs: the Ministry Leadership Coach Certification (MLCC) and the Church Planter Coach Certification. The first session is offered Sept. 20-21, 2007, at St. Stephen’s Church, Sewickley, PA.
For information, see: www.acn-us.org

The ACN is also offering seven evangelism training conferences in cities across the US this fall and winter. For details, see: www.acn-us.org

Archbishop of York warns Anglican conservatives
In an interview with Jonathan Petre of the Telegraph, Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, warned conservative Anglican leaders that, by boycotting Lambeth 2008, they would be effectively expelling themselves from the worldwide Communion.
See: www.telegraph.co.uk. To read Petre’s full interview see: www.telegraph.co.uk.

Global South Steering Committee statement
If you haven’t yet read the statement from the Global South Steering Committee, you can do so at: www.globalsouthanglican.org

The statement responds to the Anglican Church of Canada’s recent General Synod, noting they:
are “dismayed” by the ACC’s unilateral declaration “that same-sex blessing is not core doctrine”
recognize that the decision not to proceed further with authorizing same sex blessing is only “temporary restraint”
are aware that ACC bishops continue to defy the recommendations of the Windsor process
are exploring possibilities for providing pastoral care for Canadian Anglicans wishing to remain faithful to Communion teaching

Defining Anglicanism
In a letter published in a recent Church of England newspaper, four Anglican leaders succinctly define an Anglican church as one “founded on a commitment to faithfulness to the scriptures as the supreme authority in matters of faith and conduct and the catholic creeds. That commitment requires agreement in faith, holiness of life, and biblically faithful teaching.” They contend that a church is not defined as Anglican merely by “…formal conformity with a particular see or institution, or attendance at a specific gathering within the Communion, no matter how venerable.”
See: www.globalsouthanglican.org

Church of England bishops threaten to boycott Lambeth Conference
Times religion correspondent, Ruth Gledhill, reports that up to ten Church of England bishops might boycott the upcoming Lambeth Conference if the bishops of the Episcopal Church do not meet the demands of the Dar es Salaam Communiqué by the September 30th deadline and if the bishops of the Global South decline to attend.

Nigerian bishop survives second attempt on his life
For the second time in 18 months an attempt has been made on the life of Bishop Benjamin Kwashi, the Bishop of Jos, Nigeria. In the early morning, a gang of at least five armed men broke through the door of his home, beat his son, and told the bishop they were going to kill him. Inexplicably, they changed their minds and instead ransacked the house and stole valuables. Just four weeks ago, Bishop Kwashi was a featured speaker at a conference at Wycliffe Hall in England.
