Panel of Reference releases report on the Diocese of New Westminster
The Panel of Reference today released its recommendations related to the parishes in New Westminster who had sought Adequate Episcopal Oversight through ANiC (See Panel's report). As an initial response, ANiC has sent an open letter to all members discussing this crisis. This letter is also posted on our website.

Others have already begun to respond to the Panel's report:
Archbishop Drexel Gomez, West Indies
Archbishop Gregory J. Venables, Southern Cone
Archbishop Andrew Hutchinson, Canada
Diocese of New Westminster

For more background on this crisis, see ANiC's August 21st news release issued following the Panel's visit to Vancouver this summer. After months of working with the Panel of Reference on our application for “Adequate Episcopal Oversight”, the ANiC was excluded from the process only days prior to the hearing. Instead, the Panel restricted their meeting to representatives of six Vancouver-area parishes, officials from the Diocese of New Westminster, and the Primate of Canada.

Global South Primates' Communiqué a warning for ACC (Sept 22, 2006)
Primates and representatives from 20 of the 38 Anglican Provinces worldwide met in Kigali in mid-September. Although they dealt with many pressing issues, they took time to address the growing theological divide in the global Anglican Church - particularly in North America. See full details.

The Global South also released a draft document, The Road to Lambeth, which speaks more fully to this issue. The next significant event is the meeting of all Primates in February 2007. The Global South Kigali Communiqué indicated that many of the Primates did not consider themselves in communion with the Episcopal Church's newly elected leader, Katharine Jefferts Schori because of her theological stand, and so could not welcome her as a Primate at this event. It also commended “… the members of the Anglican Network in Canada for their commitment to historic, biblical faith and practice. We value their courage and consistent witness.”

Report on AEC Consultation (August 23-24, 2006)
Concerned Anglicans from across Canada - laypeople, clergy and bishops - gathered in Toronto for two busy days of consultation, information and spiritual refreshment. From listening to one another during the highly productive consultations, we gained new appreciation for the diversity of views within orthodox Anglicanism in Canada and advanced preparations for the June 2007 General Synod. See full report.

Report on ANiC Consultation (August 25-26, 2006)
Following the AEC conference, Network members met for a further two days of excellent Scriptural teaching, fellowship and discussion. Read the report here.

Epistle from Bishop Donald Harvey, delivered at the ANiC consultation
Bishop Don delivered a comprehensive report to the August 25-26 ANIC consultation in Toronto. His three-part report covers: Challenges in our journey; Joys along the way; and Hopes and fears. See full report.

US Episcopal General Convention and beyond
Following the election of Katharine Jefferts Schori as incoming Primate of the US Episcopal Church, eight US dioceses formally asked the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Primates for alternative primatial oversight. As a result, the Archbishop of Canterbury requested a meeting of Episcopal bishops from both sides of the theological divide in New York on 11-13 September. Reporting on the meeting, Bishop Robert Duncan, Moderator of the Anglican Communion Network, thanked people for their prayers and added that the meeting had not led to a mutually agreeable way forward. See more.

Worth repeating
Reporter, Lillian Kwon, in the Christian Post (Sept 28, 2006), quotes South Carolina's Bishop-elect, The Very Rev. Mark Lawrence as saying, “… all due parliamentary procedure to convince The Episcopal Church that it has erred has proved fruitless…. Like an addictive or dysfunctional family, this exclusive pursuit of 'cultural sensitivity' has led to destructive behavior…. Underneath all the discussions of human sexuality, our message is this: The Episcopal Church, in its obsession to be what it has termed inclusive, has excluded the absolute priority of Holy Scripture and the historic continuity of the catholic faith."
