The Anglican Relief and Development Fund Canada (ARDFC) is now fully operational and, with the granting of charitable status by Revenue Canada, is able to receive donations and issue receipts for income tax purposes. Full information is available on the website: www.ardfc.ca.
ARDFC works in close partnership with the Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) and the Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) – the relief and development agency associated with our Province, the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).
ARDFC undertakes carefully selected and monitored projects in partnership with Anglican dioceses in the Global South. Through ARDFC, Canadians can give with confidence knowing their resources will meet real, pressing needs facing our Anglican brothers and sisters in the Global South as they care for their own parishioners as well as minister to those in need in their communities.
ARDFC’s initial project is working with the Diocese of Maseno, Kenya to educate pregnant women, mothers and volunteers on malaria prevention and use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets. Malaria is caused by parasites transmitted by infected mosquitoes. This project will reduce illness and infant mortality among the most vulnerable women and children in Kenya. The World Health Organization notes that malaria caused nearly one million deaths in 2006 – mostly among African children. ARDFC needs $50,000 (Cdn) to fund this project.
In addition, ARDFC is collecting donations to help with the urgent needs in the Diocese of Chile in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
Donations can be made by cheque or online. Please mail cheques to Anglican Relief and Development Fund Canada, c/o Box 1013, Burlington, ON, L7R 4L8.
