Ottawa, ON – The Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) synod has elected the Rt Rev Charles Masters as Co-adjutor Diocesan Bishop to succeed our Diocesan Bishop and Moderator the Rt Rev Donald Harvey when he retires in 2014.
The election took place at St Peter and St Paul Anglican Church in Ottawa on November 14 with the Primate of the Anglican Church in North America, the Most Rev Robert Duncan, presiding.
The House of Bishops of the Anglican Church in North America, of which ANiC is a diocese, must approve the election.

Anglican Network in Canada
The Anglican Network in Canada numbers 69 parishes, church plants and forming congregations with more than 4000 parishioners in church on an average Sunday. Members of the Anglican Network in Canada are committed to remaining faithful to the established teaching of Holy Scripture and historic Anglican doctrine and to ensuring that orthodox Canadian Anglicans are able to remain in full fellowship with their Anglican brothers and sisters around the world. The Anglican Network in Canada was founded as an ecclesial structure in 2007 and became a founding diocese in the Anglican Church in North America.
Anglican Church in North America (ACNA)
The Anglican Church in North America unites into a single Church some 100,000 Anglicans in nearly 1000 congregations – organized into 23 dioceses and three dioceses-in-formation. The ACNA is an emerging Province in the global Anglican Communion. It was founded in 2009, under the leadership of Archbishop Robert Duncan, at the request of global Anglican leaders whose churches represent 70 per cent of active Anglicans around the world.
The ACNA’s mission is “Reaching North America with the Transforming Love of Jesus Christ”. It has been growing by about three churches per week since its inception and has set itself the goal of planting 1000 new churches within its first five years – primarily through reaching unchurched North Americans with the life-transforming Good News of Jesus Christ.
Members of the ACNA are in the mainstream, both globally and historically, of Christianity – the Biblically-faithful way of following Jesus and being part of the “One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church”. As Anglicans, this orthodoxy is defined by and centered on the Church’s classic formularies – the Book of Common Prayer, including the Ordinal, and the Thirty-nine Articles – which all point back to the authority of the Holy Bible and articulate foundational principles of the Anglican tradition throughout the world.
The Rt Rev Charles F Masters
Bishop Charlie Masters was born in 1951 into a wonderful Christian family, raised in Lennoxville, Quebec and later Guelph Ontario where he completed his high school and then graduated from University of Guelph in Physical Sciences in 1972. While at the University of Guelph, Charlie made a clear commitment to Christ which has changed everything ever since.
From 1972 to 1975, Charlie worked for the Navigators at the UBC, Vancouver. While there, he received a Teachers’ Certificate as a high school teacher, received a clear call to ordained ministry and met Judy who by December 1975 became his wife. Charlie and Judy have been best friends and partners in the gospel ever since. They are parents to Matthew, who is married to Rachel, and Suzie, who is married to Thomas. Suzie and Thomas have a son, Isaiah.
From 1975 to 1978, Charlie did his theological training at St. John's College, Nottingham, England. While there, Charlie and Judy were fortunate to be able to participate in a number of very exciting churches which became for them a vision and model of thriving Anglicanism.
In 1978, Charlie was ordained deacon and then in 1979 priest. He served as Curate at St. Luke's Burlington 1978-1980. In 1980 +Charlie was appointed rector of the Parish of St George's Lowville and St John's Nassagaweya and served there until 2008. From 2002, he was released part-time to serve as National Director of Anglican Essentials while continuing as rector of St George’s.
In February 2008, he and St George's Lowville seceded from the Diocese of Niagara and were welcomed into the Anglican Network in Canada. In June 2008, he stepped down as rector to become Executive Archdeacon and later in 2009 along with Bishop Trevor and Bishop Stephen was consecrated and became a Suffragan Bishop of ANiC now serving in Eastern Canada as a Bishop and also as National Director under Moderator and Diocesan Bishop Donald Harvey. +Charlie has served in the Common Cause leading to the formation of ACNA as General Secretary and Vice Chair and now is a member of the ACNA Cabinet serving our Primate, Archbishop Duncan.
