Canon Phil Ashey
As the President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Anglican Council (AAC), Canon Ashey leads a vital ministry that has served the Anglican Communion for 20 years. Canon Ashey personally instructs, coaches and mentors clergy and lay leaders through AAC programs like the Clergy Leadership Training Institute and Church ReVitalization. As a Canon lawyer, he provides legal and canonical advice to churches and leaders. He is Chair of the Governance Task Force of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) which drafted the Constitution and Canons of the new church and currently serves on its Provincial Council. He consults with groups across the country seeking to form new diocese. Fr Ashey is in his 28th year of serving in the ministry. He has served congregations of all sizes in California, Virginia, and Pittsburgh. Internationally, Canon Ashey is an advisor to the Primates' Council of the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON).
Prior to joining the AAC, Canon Ashey led his Northern Virginia church plant out of The Episcopal Church (USA) and into The Church of Uganda. This experience, plus his legal background, has helped him in providing advice to those seeking counsel from the AAC. He has taught at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, Ambridge, PA; lead and participated in mission trips to Uganda and Kenya; and was pastor and counsel for the Christian Legal Society. Before his ordination, Fr Ashey was a Deputy District Attorney in Orange County, California. He completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University, law degree at Loyola Law School, his Master of Divinity at General Theological Seminary in New York and his LLM in Canon Law from Cardiff University (Wales).
