Incorporation: Operating a not-for-profit corporation under the new federal legislation
This workshop will focus on the basics of operating a not-for-profit corporation under the new Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.
Topics will include how to meet administrative obligations (such as annual filings and meetings), where to go for help with interpreting your by-laws, how to handle financial reporting, and directors’ liabilities. It will also cover the basic obligations of corporations that are also registered charities. Alexandra will be providing some easy-to-follow checklists.

Alexandra practices tax, corporate and charity law with Drache Aptowitzer LLP. Her practice focuses on creating, structuring, and maintaining corporations at both the federal and provincial levels, securing and defending charitable registrations, assisting in tax disputes, and conducting continuances to the new federal not-for-profit legislation. She is dedicated to working closely with her clients to identify their needs and offer practical, effective solutions.
Alexandra frequently speaks and writes on topics of interest to charities and non-profit organizations. Her work has appeared in several high-profile industry publications, including The Canadian Taxpayer, Canadian Not-For-Profit News, Hilborn Charity eNEWS, and Thomson Reuters’ Taxnet Pro.
