August 18 – Toronto area church combined outdoor service ...

On August 18, after countless emails among the rectors, six parishes in the Toronto area cancelled Sunday morning services, and gathered an hour's drive north of the city in the town of Orangeville. On that beautiful summer morning, a canopy was erected in the provincial park for the Holy Eucharist service.

About 60 - including children, international students and seniors - made the long trip and sang their hearts out, then listened to a short sermon. After the service, the barbecues were lit and a potluck lunch was enjoyed by all. The food, like the group, was international: from the mundane (hotdogs) to the exotic (sticky rice). Most were on their way home by mid-afternoon, delighted for such a spiritually affirming experience in a shady park.

The event was an opportunity to link together as members of the Anglican Network in Canada. Plans are underway for something similar next year, but with more parishes involved. See photos on the Christ the Redeemer Facebook page.
