More on Network’s pivotal November 22-23 summit
The agenda for “Building on the Solid Rock” is almost finalized and we hope to send it to you next week. Those who are not members of Network, but who share our commitment to the principles of the Anglican Essentials Montreal Declaration, are most welcome.

This meeting is much more than “just another conference”. The two days will be an action-oriented summit at which Network leadership will present specific plans for the immediate future for many orthodox Anglicans in Canada. We will be briefed on what to expect during the next six months as parishes and individuals consider the options for their future in Canadian and global Anglicanism. It is our intention to equip delegates with the information necessary to make wise and Godly decisions in the days ahead.

For those registered or planning to register, conference organizer, Keith Stodart has
some tips:
If you haven’t booked your hotel, the conference rates negotiated at some hotels are expiring.
The optional Friday evening fellowship dinner will start about 7 pm and end about 8:30pm.
If you wish to be transported to or from the airport, please provide your flight arrangements as soon as possible – if you have not done so already. Send to transport@anglicannetwork.ca and copy conference@anglicannetwork.ca. We will try to accommodate as many people as possible, but cannot guarantee transportation. A schedule of bus transportation will drawn up (based on requests received) and will be made available be November 15.
We need your payment before we can confirm your registration – i.e. cheque in hand or payment completed through PayPal (using your credit card)
PayPal may be new to some of you. If you are paying by credit card using PayPal, you need to note and follow the instructions closely.
Please note: Partial conference registration is not an option because we feel it is very important for people to attend ALL sessions.

Ottawa & Montreal votes demonstrate result of General Synod decisions
By a vote of 177 to 97, delegates to the Ottawa diocesan synod approved the blessing of same-sex marriages. The motion stated: "Be it resolved that this synod requests that the bishop grant permission for clergy, whose conscience permits, to bless duly solemnized and registered civil marriages between same-sex couples, where at least one party is baptized; and that he authorizes an appropriate rite and guidelines for its use in supportive parishes."

And the Anglican Journal story: www.anglicanjournal.com

Less than a week later, the Diocese of Montreal’s synod passed virtually the same motion. See our release: www.anglicannetwork.ca And the Anglican Journal story: www.anglicanjournal.com

One day after the vote in Montreal, the Episcopal Diocese of California approved use of rites for the blessing of same gender couples by an overwhelming margin. See: www.prnewswire.com

Archbishop Fred Hiltz is quoted in the Anglican Journal saying, "I believe due process was followed with respect to the handling of this resolution. The outcome of the resolution is a reflection of the mind of the church local in this matter," See: www.anglicanjournal.com

A front page story in the National Post quotes the Rev Alan Perry, said to be an expert on canon law, who (to paraphrase) says that General Synod left a legal vacuum that the dioceses are now filling. He draws an unfortunate and trivializing analogy between the current debate over God’s design for sexuality and marriage and a dispute over the use of candles in the 19th century. www.canada.com

And a news release today from the Anglican Church of Canada (ACC) reports that when Archbishop Hiltz met with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, at Lambeth Palace last week, Dr Williams described the ACC’s approach to handling the issue of human sexuality as “coherent”. The news release quotes Archbishop Hiltz as saying, "It's always nice to hear someone like the Archbishop of Canterbury or from the Anglican Communion Office say you're handling this coherently, cautiously, judiciously, and you've got some things I would hold up as a model for others to consider as they grapple with the issue." See: www.anglican.ca

A note on news releases
When the Network issues a news release to the media, we also provide members (for whom we have email addresses) with a copy. News releases, by their nature, represent one point of view. Media stories, on the other hand, are supposed to be “balanced”. The general media usually try to provide all sides on a position. We issue news releases to increase the chances that our position on a particular issue is represented in the media.

A note on pdf email attachments
Are you having trouble opening the pdf attachments to Network emails? If you have been unable to open pdf files, please reply to this email and we’ll see that you get some important recent attachments in another format. Unless we hear from you otherwise, we’ll send these as Word documents. In the future, on a trail basis, we’ll try sending attachments as Word documents and, based on what we hear back from you, we’ll decide which format works best for the most people.

Anglican Covenant called dangerous
The Diocese of New Westminster has posted an article titled
The dangers of an Anglican Covenant, which reports on a presentation given by Rev. Dr. Richard Leggett. Leggett’s argues that the proposed draft covenant gives too much power to the Primates. See: www.vancouver.anglican.ca

Andrew Goddard examines the Communion post Sept 30th
Dr. Andrew Goddard has posted a comprehensive analysis of the state of the Communion following the Episcopal Church’s House of Bishop’s meeting on the Anglican Communion Institute website. He concludes, as many others have, that the JSC “…gave the HoB credit for clearing the Windsor/Dar bar when, in fact, they have demonstrably fallen short. That failure at New Orleans sadly means the Archbishop of Canterbury must now face even more difficult decisions than those JSC have already outlined in Part Two of their report.” See: http://anglicancommunioninstitute.com

Canterbury’s correspondence with Bishop Howe raises questions
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams responded to a request from Bishop Howe (Diocese of Florida) to differentiate between bishops/dioceses that are Windsor compliant and those that are not. Dr Williams’ response must have raised alarm bells because Canterbury issued a ‘clarification’ shortly afterward. Dr Williams’ original response expressed his conviction that “The organ of union with the wider Church is the Bishop and the Diocese rather than the Provincial structure as such.” See: www.kendallharmon.net

The clarification stated, in part, that, “The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Oct. 14 letter to Bishop John W. Howe of Central Florida was not a statement of Anglican Communion policy but a particular response to a local situation.” See: http://livingchurch.org

Archbishop says uncertainty is over
Archbishop Peter Jensen (Diocese of Sydney) says that the long period of uncertainty in the Communion is now over “The decisive moments have passed. Irreversible actions have occurred. The time has come for sustained thought about a different future. The Anglican Communion will never be the same again. The Windsor process has failed, largely because it refused to grapple with the key issue of the truth. A new and more biblical vision is required to help biblically faithful Anglican churches survive and grow in the contemporary world… the basic issue is no longer how can the Communion be kept together. It is, within the Communion as it has now become, how can biblical Anglicans help each other survive and mission effectively in the contemporary world?” See: http://your.sydneyanglicans.net

Priest exonerated of charges
An independent forensic audit initiated by the church vestry has cleared the Rev Donald Armstrong of allegations of financial mismanagement, fraud, and theft at Grace Church & St. Stephen’s. The audit was initiated by the vestry in direct response to – what it saw as a politically motivated presentment against Father Armstrong by the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado. Earlier this year, the parish voted to disaffiliate with the Episcopal Church and join the conservative Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) to remain in fellowship with the larger worldwide Anglican Communion. Common Cause Partner profile: the Anglican Coalition in Canada (ACiC) and the Anglican Mission in the Americas (AMiA)
Founded in 2000, AMiA is a missionary outreach of the Province of the
Episcopal Church of Rwanda under the oversight of Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini. AMiA is lead by Bishop Chuck Murphy, a missionary bishop of the Province of Rwanda and chairman of the AMiA Council of Bishops. AMiA is currently comprised of 116 churches with over 30 emerging works in process.

The
Anglican Coalition in Canada affiliated with AMiA in 2004. Lead by the Rev Barclay Mayo, ACiC currently numbers 11 churches – the majority in BC. See: www.theamia.org; www.acicanada.ca

Parish profile: Church of the Good Shepherd, Vancouver
The Church of the Good Shepherd is one busy parish, having just completed both revival meetings and an evangelistic rally this month. The Rev Stephen Leung and his wife Nona have faithfully served this diverse, largely Chinese parish of close to 300 since 1990. Services are conducted in both Cantonese and English. The ministry focus is relational, particularly reaching and ministering to people in the context of their family relationships. The parish has a heart for advancing the Kingdom and a group within the parish is prayerfully seeking God’s leading about possibly planting a church.

On the lighter side…
Reuters reports that a British souvenir company has produced miniature tree-topping ornaments in the likeness of Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and Archbishop of York John Sentamu as …“an alternative to your traditional Christmas fairy." See: http://uk.reuters.com
