Liturgical calendar and Lectionary resources ...
Canon Tom Carman, ANiC's registrar, has kindly prepared lectionary and liturgical calendar resources for this Church Year based on the new ACNA's new lectionary working texts, which are recommended for use by every ANiC congregation as we work toward the release of a new ACNA Prayer Book in 2019. You can access these helpful resources from the ANiC website. The lectionary resources are here and the liturgical calendar resources are here.

Email James to receive the group's newsletter.

Sons of the Holy Cross contemplative order founded ...
The Sons of the Holy Cross - which is modeled partially on the existing ACNA order Daughters of the Holy Cross - was recently founded by ANiC members in the Langley / Abbotsford, BC area. This contemplative order for men is focused on a five-fold rule of: study/ meditation, prayer, work (public service), sacraments and friendship. As with the Daughters of the Holy Cross, Bishop Don Harvey is the patron. The organizers welcome inquiries from others, including those interested in perhaps starting new chapters. The intention is to remain grassroots-driven, with loosely connected chapters, no bureaucracy and no fees. Please see the website for details and contact information.

Memoir recounts triumph over horrific evil – by God's grace and strength ...
Archdeacon Ron Corcoran has written a compelling autobiography which is available from Amazon or, better, directly from Ron+. The title says it all: Deliver Us From Evil: The Remarkable True Story of a Child's Abuse, Spiritual Deception, Deliverance and Ultimate Redemption. Bishop Trevor Walters writes, "Ron's childhood was unremitting evil. It is compelling reading… It is miraculous that someone could come through so much adversity and yet be able to have had a successful ministry... I could not put the book down. This is epic and needs to be read by everyone; it is shocking and remarkable. God has redeemed his life." Another reviewer says, the "…memoir is not a woeful lament but a celebration of redemption, composed thoughtfully and showing a profound sense of gratitude." Bishop Charlie writes: "I highly commend to you Archdeacon Ron Corcoran's most recent book Deliver us from Evil. You will find it is a powerful testament to the glorious grace of our Lord… I am sure that many will receive from the Lord much healing that they themselves require even as they read…this powerful book."

AMMiC holds successful 4th Two Generation Leadership Conference ...
This September 30 - October 1 conference, focused on Honouring Your Parents: God's Word, Cultural Heritage and Christian Community, was well received by the 90 attendees. The two keynote speakers – The Rev Dr David Pao and The Rev Dr Pakon Cha – ably dealt with the "two generation" issue which particularly affects ethnic churches with largely immigrant congregations – ie While the younger generation is fluent in English and comfortable with Canadian culture, the older generation is not, creating problems in the church. The advisory committee is currently discerning the next steps for the two generation ministry. Watch for information.

New ARDFC projects – in Cuba and Haiti ...
The Anglican Relief and Development Fund Canada (ARDFC) has launched a new development project, this time in partnership with the ACNA church plants in Cuba. We are raising the funds needed for these churches to purchase a van which will not only meet their transportation needs (see photo!) but also will provide a way to generate revenue and thus reduce the churches' dependence on outside donations. For more information, see the ARDFC website. This project will have special appeal to the many ANiC churches already partnering with these Cuban church plants.

In response to the devastation brought by Hurricane Matthew, ARDFC also launched an emergency appeal to help rebuild the lives of those most affected in Haiti. Our partner in this is Compassion Canada which has a long-standing track-record oin Haiti of helping children and their families rise above the constraints of poverty.

We're doing the happy dance… of gratitude to God! ...
Remember back in the spring when Bishop Charlie wrote us all saying ANiC was facing the grim prospect of ending the fiscal year (June 30) with a deficit of $100,000? Well, with hearts overflowing with gratitude to God, we can report that He moved donors to give generously. Instead of a potential deficit, we can now joyfully report that we ended 2015-16 with a small surplus! (Once we have completed the official audit, we'll know exactly where we stand.) Please join us in giving God thanks for His gracious, overflowing provision.

Cuba church partnership report ...
In May, a team from ANiC visited REC churches in Cuba founded by the Reformed Episcopal Church (REC), a sister ACNA diocese. A number of ANiC – and now ACNA – parishes are partnering with these Cuban churches. While in Cuba, the team was able to attend the third synod of the Reformed Episcopal Diocese of Cuba. They write, "All of us agreed it was one of the finest Synods we have experienced… The Cuban church has truly come of age". The team reports that "…the church in Cuba is prevailing against harsh obstacles… Through Moore College extension from Australia, clergy are being educated... Evangelists are being raised up and mission stations are springing up all over Cuba… Clergy are being powerfully led and pastored by Bishop William our Cuban Bishop… Without financial aid clergy would need three jobs to put basics food on the table, leaving no time for the work of ministry and the growth of the church."

There are now 17 church partnerships between Cuban churches and ACNA churches. Would your parish consider sponsoring a Cuban church? For information see the ANiC website – where you'll find photos, a video, Bishop William's charge to synod, and contact information for the Rev Barclay Mayo who coordinates ANiC's work with the REC Cuban churches. Please continue to pray for the Church in Cuba.

ANiC bishops respond to Anglican Church of Canada vote ...
Following the vote by the Anglican Church of Canada in favour of changing the marriage canon to allow same-sex marriages, the bishops of ANiC issued a statement which said the decision was "clearly in contrast to the scriptural teaching of marriage and moves the Anglican Church of Canada apart from the Anglican Communion worldwide" and was done "in defiance of biblically faithful Anglicans worldwide" and showed "evident disdain for the authority of God's Written Word". Our bishops' statement was reported in LifeSiteNews.

St John's Vancouver co-hosted a celebration for Canon Dr J I Packer in July, marking his 90th birthday. And Bishop Malcolm Harding celebrated his 80th birthday. It includes both Old and New Testament stories that point to and reveal Christ as the Saviour and Promised Forever King. The lessons are linked to the new ACNA Catechism to ensure that the lessons are structured to include many of the truths of our faith.

Dr J I Packer admonishes Anglicans to speak out about the sanctity of life ...
Speaking by video to the recent Anglicans for Life conference in the Washington, DC area, Dr Packer discussed the sanctity of life and the Church’s role is confronting the evil of abortion. He said in part, “The church is being unfaithful to God and to His Word if the church remains silent about these matters [abortion]… I don’t see how Christians can simply turn a blind eye to this issue… I would insist on the sanctity of life… Life is a gift of God… and holy… so life in any womb… is equally holy… equally a neighbour and equally to be preserved. In a pregnant woman I have two neighbours, not just one.”

May 1 is designated Sanctity of Life Sunday in Canada. On this day, churches celebrate God's gift of life – honouring the children lost to abortion and the parents and grandparents whose lives are forever affected. We also renew our commitment to protecting human life and at every stage – including those who are elderly, disabled or ill. Connect with Anglicans for Life Canada and checkout their training and resources. Also contact Vicky Hedelius+ for information.

Author, author! ...
Bishop Trevor Walters is the proud author of a newly published book: EAS Syndrome: Healing Burnout in Adults Lacking Parental Affirmation. [Note: EAS stands for “External Affirmation Syndrome".] The book, which was undertaken in collaboration with a well-known psychiatrist, addresses the question of why so many clergy – and others – burnout in midlife, with an estimated 1500 pastors in the US alone abandoning their ministries each month. Surprisingly, the main cause of burnout is not simply stress but an unmet need for external affirmation – a need rooted in childhood. Lacking affirmation from parents, especially fathers, many of us seek to get affirmation from those we serve, which can lead to burnout. Recognizing this underlying cause allows us take the needed steps to prevent and heal burnout. The book is available at Anglican House Publishers.

Bishop Stephen’s shares his experience on building multicultural churches ...
ANiC's Bishop Stephen Leung was interviewed for an article on multiculturalism posted on the Missions Fest Vancouver website. He discusses the need for more people from visible minorities in church leadership, the need for Christians to intentionally foster friendships with people of other ethnic backgrounds, and the importance of enabling new immigrants to worship God in their native language. Churches need a long-term vision of becoming more multicultural; we need to go to ethnic minorities rather than expect them to come to our churches; and in bring the Gospel to ethnic minorities we need to protect their cultural identity.

Bishop Charlie Masters statement from the Primates meeting in Canterbury ...
Our Primate, Archbishop Beach, fully participated in the Primates’ gathering at Canterbury until today, when he, along with several other GAFCon Primates, left… The witness to the broader Communion was very significant. I believe some Provinces are being drawn into GAFCon as a result of the witness of GAFCon and Global South Primates at this gathering… Archbishop Beach told media here, “The sanctions placed on the Episcopal Church are strong, but they are not strong enough, and to my deep disappointment they didn’t include the Anglican Church of Canada as they should. It took many steps for the Anglican Communion to come to this current crisis. This is a good step back in the right direction, but it will take many more if the Communion is to be restored.” Read Bishop Charlie's full statement.
