Already this year nearly $84,000 has been given through the ARDFC to support development projects in South Sudan and now Burundi, as well as for emergency disaster relief in Myanmar and Nepal, and to help refugees from Iraq and Syria. The approximately $20,000 already received for Syrian refugees will be matched by the federal government. See ARDFC website

Praying for refugees ...
Our Archbishop Foley Beach has issued a call to prayer for refugees ...

LORD JESUS CHRIST our Refuge and Deliverer, Who as a child sought refuge in Egypt while fleeing from those who would persecute and harm You. Remember those today who must flee in the same manner, and find themselves in foreign and strange lands, granting them Your presence, Your protection, and Your provision. Illuminate us to be a shining light upon a hill amidst the dark evil in our world, that we may do our part with hospitality and resources, and that all who are refugees might be led to the brightness of Your redemptive love made present by Your glorious Incarnation, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Our goals are to improve productivity, nutrition and income so the farmers can become self-sustaining and able to send their children to school. See more on the ARDFC website. If you’d like a better understanding of how ARDFC works, you can watch an excellent new video from our sister agency in the US, ARDF exploring a project in Gambella, Ethiopia where Bishop Grant and Dr Wendy LeMarquand minister.

In addition, Cross Roads Peninsula Church has voted to become a Table community in Brentwood Bay. The Rev Josh Wilton likens The Table’s structure to the pomegranate, one piece of fruit containing multiple clusters. So The Table will soon comprise several “clusters” around the Victoria area:
Table North (Saanich) will be pastored by the Rev Andy Withrow,
Table South (downtown Victoria) will be pastored by the Rev Josh Wilton, and
Table Peninsula Project in Brentwood Bay will be pastored by the Rev Jonathan Ellis – who has been ministering with

Your help is needed as ANiC’s year-end approaches ...
Your help is needed as ANiC’s year-end approaches ANiC’s financial year runs July 1 to June 30. This means that we are rapidly approaching that annual crunch time. Over the last two years we have made encouraging progress and erased past deficits. But we still rely on individual gifts to meet 24 per cent of our budget – and that is likely to continue for several more years as our diocese grows and matures.

If you’ve been meaning to send in a donation, now would be a really good time to support the work of the diocese and help advance ANiC’s five ministry priorities. Information on giving to ANiC is here. Thank you!

Nepal earthquake ...
Bishop Charlie Masters wrote Bishop Rennis (Singapore) and the Anglican Church in Nepal, a deanery of the Diocese of Singapore, expressing our love and prayerful concern following the catastrophic earthquake. Bishop Rennis' response included the following:

"I ask for your prayers especially for our village churches in the district of Dhading where the earthquake took out 10 of our churches... We just received news that one of our lay pastors in Dhading and 17 of his members were killed when the quake struck. One of the pastors who survived the ordeal painfully reported, "Nothing is standing"... Yes through the pain, we also trace the mercy of Christ... Despite the many reports of collapsed buildings in Kathmandu, the Lord protected our churches in the city. A Kathmandu pastor explained that they are still alive because they were worshiping together in their church, which stood firm that fateful morning."

Ethiopia martyrs ...
Earlier, Bishop Charlie wrote Bishop Grant LeMarquand in Ethiopia expressing our sadness to learn of the martyrdom of 30 Ethiopian Christians in Libya at the hands of Islamic State terrorists. Bishop Grant wrote: "It is too early to learn the names of these newest martyrs...they are [now] among the unnumbered throng from every nation, tribe, people and language gathered before the throne and the Lamb (Rev 7:9)... it is a reality that more Christians have died martyrs’ deaths in the last hundred years than in all the previous centuries of Christian history combined... May God use his church to so act and speak of and from the love of Christ that many former or potential persecutors may be turned and have their names written in the book of life."
